HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR FRONT DOOR IS SECURE

Your front door is one of the most important components in securing your home, so it’s important that you’ve got all the boxes ticked when it comes to keeping it as secure as possible. Here are some of the most effective ways to ensure the security of your front door and keep your family safe.

Invest in a solid door

Front doors are subject to lots of wear and tear and are often the first line of defence against intruders, so it’s important you go with a solid, high-quality option. Make sure you choose a solid timber, strong composite fibreglass or aluminium door that’s in good condition and that’s been professionally installed to ensure it is fit for purpose.

Get the right locks

A solid front door is only one part of the security equation – you also need to invest in good-quality locks. We recommend installing at least two locks on your front door to make it difficult to break in and to act as a deterrent for thieves. This may include a standard lock within the doorknob, as well as a deadbolt for added security.

Install security screens

Creating an additional barrier between your home and your surrounds is a good option if you’re concerned about security, so the addition of a security screen on your front door can provide peace of mind. In addition to the added safety factor, security screens can also be a great option when you’d like to keep some fresh air flowing through your home, without sacrificing your family’s safety or peace of mind.

Reinforce your door

If your door’s hardware or hinges are old, it can mean that it’s not as secure as it should be. Reinforcing your door strengthens your entryway through the addition of an added layer of steel, which can prevent the door frame from splitting as a result of force.

Light it up

Investing in quality outdoor lighting, along pathways to your front door and in your front porch area, is a useful strategy to up the security of your home. Sensor lights are a great way to detect and deter intruders and when positioned correctly can keep your home much more secure.
